CHALLENGE SUGGESTED BY CHRISTOPHER JURY
Some philosophers (ie., Plato, Marx) have proposed grand schemes for society. Plato, for instance argued for a society in which one's status is determined by one's intelligence. Other philosophers (ie., Karl Popper) have been skeptical of such grand schemes. Popper suggested that societies should change only a little bit at a time, and only when necessary.
What do you think ?
Is there an ideal world for us to live in ? If not, why not ?

Cooperation?
Maybe cooperation isn't such a good thing?

COOPERATION ?
A world full of autistic aspies !
perhaps there's no such thing as the ideal world - instead through a mixture
of rules, good intentions etc. we do the best we can & hopefully sufficient
of us want to socially cooperate for it to work
Social welfare can do much to alleviate the lives of the unfortunate & countries
like Denmark etc. suggest that there is more we can do in that direction
[but that means higher taxes for the rich] but there'll always be those who
need to spend some [much of their lives] in jail for the rest of us
historically though, there does seem to be a move towards larger confederations based on cooperation rather than on conquest [ie., Canada,
Oz, European Union etc.] & perhaps its best to leave such confederations to
evolve over time much like democracy slowly evolved over almost a thousand years in England [whereas attempts to get it going in places such as Russia
[1900-1917], Iraq etc. where there's not a long tradition has been less
successful .
...
An ideal world, for a start, would be Bush-free, American-spelling-variant-free, and detention-free (see my recent post in Random Ideas)
I agree on
Two of the things previously suggested, the former two

detention free
Brian once I would have agreed with you but since now I'm a powerful
adult .......
& theyr'e useful concepts for dramas etc.
10 years ago I visited my old boarding school [Dilworth] where caning stopped
in 1989 [with the Law change]. Boys there could be leave-dopted, which meant that they had to stay back if they'd been 'naughty'. During my
visit I had discussions with several classes and several boys said they'd rather have the cane than a detention because the cane was quick. I guess
you could bring the cane back & abolish detentions !
Or how about abolishing schools ?
...
It would also be tonsillitis free.
Seeing as I forgot to post the PAFMOTD in my first post today, here it is:
PAF MESSAGE OF THE DAY:
Cow dung can not be gathered where no cow goes. (disgusting Ethiopian proverb)
tonsillitis free
thats easy - just rip out the tonsils when the baby 's born - then those nasty
bugs that cause tonsillitis would have to entertain themselves somewhere else
What about everyone else?
This is almost like a parody of the book Extras, a world where everything is run by how popular you are. Except for one difference, they also have merits, so that people who get jobs done and basically contribute to society can also have good houses and have nice things.
Please read! I am a fan (sad, I know)
