THE INVENTOR FACTORS OF A TECHNOLOGY

The Inventor Factors of a technology are the set of inventors who created a piece of modern technology and the components of that technology.

For example, who invented the nuclear missile ?  Such a missile must have a rocket, nuclear warhead and guidance mechanism
plus other components.   Who invented the rocket, nuclear warhead and the guidance system?

In turn, each of these technologies will use other technologies, such as the rocket requiring fuel, a process for burning the fuel and harnassing the energy produced,  to the actual machine which is fuelled by the process.  Each of these rocket-related technologies will have been invented by someone.  And of course, each of these rocket-related technologies may be reliant on yet further technological processes.

Your task then, is to take a technology and say:

1.    Who invented it and when?
2.    What are the component technologies underlying the 'whole' technologies and who invented each of those?
3.    Who invented the component technologies and when?
4.    Who developed ideas (ie., scientific; mathematical) underlying the technology (ie., the interchangeability of energy and mass implied by Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity)?

This process can continue back several steps to create a list of inventors that are like several chains all related by the initial complex technology.

Note that your list will probably go back several centuries, for example the nuclear missile was invented after the second world war but inventors, scientists and mathematicians who either invented or influenced the invention of components of the nuclear missle could go back to the start of the Industrial Revolution (ie., for the steam engine) or to the Ancient Greeks (for the idea of the atom).

You can pick any technology to investigate.  When making a posting please describe the function of any technologies you list, and the idea underlying any concepts raised.

I look forward to seeing your ideas.

The Beautiful Telephone!

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876.
The Component Technologies Are:

Electromagnet
Battery

And that's about it originally for the phone however it provided itself as a component technology for other inventions like the internet.

Electromagnet= William Sturgen in 1825.
Battery= Alessandro Volta in 1800.

I shall come back with some people who influenced it.

TELEPHONE

Thanks for starting the comments on this post Christopher. Technology and it's history is something I do not know much about so I'm looking forward to learning from comments such as yours.

Electromagnetism is probably the greatest scientific discovery (with evolution) of the 19thC. through the work of Faraday and Maxwell - & in turn was a major influence of 20thC physics. As you'll know electromagnetic radiation includes those used for radio and TV transmission, visible light, and x-rays. As an aside, have you heard of Schumann resonances that have a frequency of 3-8 hertz, which means that they have wavelengths of 100,000 kilometres! These resonances use the whole earth as a resonant cavity (the wooden bodies of the violin, guitar, and piano would be example of resonant cavities with sound (I think)). In contrast FM radio waves are about a metre in length.

Alessandro Volta (1745-1827) also discovered methane gas in 1778 (from sheep?). My encyclopedia had nothing on William Sturgeon. Alexander Graham Bell's Dad taught elocution (how to speak!). Bell became a professor of vocal physiology and was involved with teaching deaf mutes to speak. The telephone arose through experiments with various acoustical devices. For the last 25 years of his life he was interested in aeronautics.

Are there other components to the telephone. For example, how was the acoustical information of the voice transformed into electromagnetic information and the transformed back into acoustical information?

I look forward to more interesting information from you, Christopher.

Also...

Remember, any invention requires the invention of inventions in order to be invented.

INVENTION OF INVENTING

NO because monkeys have been found to invent things but they have no concept of Inventing.

Your notion is only about word definintions, and not about inventing per se. As noted above one can invent something & have no concept of what you they are doing.

The Chariot

The Wheel: Ugg the Magnificent
The Horse: Yahweh (or Poseidon, or God, or Allah...)

-Caleb "Hottie Funbags" Wells
--Then Ares strode out, with shield and spear,
--A mighty warrior to strike fear into our hearts.
--But we just shot him, just like in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
--And all the rest fled.

The Horse

? not attributable to random fluctuations in the level of structure in a minute region of the perceivable universe that led to runaway constraining of quasi-fractalian hierarchialisation of matter

I think you'll get the drift

And I hear Ugg was on holiday when the wheel first appeared and that his magnificience had just been challenged by Ugg the Up and Coming, who was not on holiday when the wheel first appeared on earth

but...

Maybe it was a working holiday!

-Caleb "Hottie Funbags" Wells
--Then Ares strode out, with shield and spear,
--A mighty warrior to strike fear into our hearts.
--But we just shot him, just like in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
--And all the rest fled.
