Make a famous person chain

Two famous people are chained together when one of them is born in the year the other one dies. Below is a chain lasting slightly more than 250 years.  (SEE  CHRISTOPHER'S LISTS BELOW - they last 2600 years !)

1756 - 1791   Mozart                    composer          Austrian
1791 - 1871  Charles Babbage        mathematician    English
1871 - 1942  Alexander Zemlinsky   composer           Austrian
1942 -          John McLaughlin        guitarist            USA
                   Chick Corea              jazz keyboard    USA

Can you extend the chain above ?.
Could you start another chain  ?

It should take about 20 people to go back a thousand years.

Extention (with a weak link)

Strike Anne Boleyn from my chain and add
1479 - 1536 Francesco Berni Poet Italian

NOT SURE WHEN BORN

Thanks for Berni, Caleb

The earlier you go the harder it will be to find people with known birthyears.
Royalty might have kept records & (?). Furthermore, many people wouldn't have been able to count high enough to work out how old they were (but many of the famous people must have been literate so I'd expect them to be numerate too). I wonder if birthdays were celebrated - if there'd been cakes with candles then the children may've practised counting the candles - I wonder then this ritual stated ?

I see you're up early. I guess you're not a teenager yet !

BACK TO 1320

What can I say Caleb ? I've still haven't got back before 1756 (but I do have over 300 wordhiders!). I must admit I've only heard of 5 of them (Cooke, Van Gogh, Doppler, Browne, and Boleyn).

I have no reference to Ukhaatu Khan. However, my historical atlas states that in 1227 Ghenghis Khan died and the Empire (stretching from Georga to Manchuria) was split between his 4 sons. (by 1237 it'd spread North West as far as the Ukraine, even though they attacked as far as West as Albania). From then on it gets complicated and I can find no reference to your Khan or what part of the Mongol Empire he had power over.

A Pope (Urban V) finished (by dying? ) his Papacy in 1370 - unfortunately I can't find a birthyear. Birthyears of 1370 may include Johannes Ciconia and Leonel Power (or 1385), all composers .

Looking forward to your further entries. When you complete the list I'll put the final product as an attachment to the main post.

YOUR SUPER-LONG CHAIN

A great chain Christopher. It's going to be hard to get one much longer.
It seems that 2007 might be a hard year to start & that both Caleb and you were born in a good year (1995) for famous people to die. My birth-year is 1955 which chains me to Albert Einstein.

Have you had a look at the other posts? What do you think of them ? Do you think any should be taken off ? Would you like to see more 'history' ones like this? I'm plannng to post one 'history' challenge soon. So keep checking the web-page.
