Our Trial Workshop Day at Selwyn College on 18th October was a resounding success and we were able to give each participant the opportunity to examine some of the topics we will be presenting to schools during 2012. Our tutors were Wayne McDougall, Avon Hansen-Beadle, Nicholas Oram, and Tom McGuire with Elaine le Sueur and Jean Hendy-Harris busying themselves as observers and with the general organisation. We decided to split the children into three groups of twelve based loosely on age. Wayne's maths & physics topic was certainly appreciated by a number of the most focused older boys and at least one of the girls - but some of the younger students agreed that they found it harder than they expected. Nick began with maths in each of his classes but then ventured into one of his most favoured areas of visual perception problem solving. He said he would have liked a little more time in order to get some poetry writing under way with some of the children but it just wasn't possible. However, nearly everyone attended his lunchtime Performance Poetry which was hugely enjoyed. Tom McGuire's Philosophy session was much appreciated by all involved and Avon's classes were a riot of music, dance and some things quite unexpected! But I'm not going to tell you any more - because YOU should have been there!
We will be running more Trial Workshop Days during 2012 so make sure you don't miss out next time.
